Miscellaneous Scholarship Opportunities - The following South Bay area scholarships will most likely not be found in a National Scholarship search nor are a part of the TUSD Local Scholarship Program. They are specifically mentioned as they may be a good opportunity due to the small # of applications submitted. Good luck!! (This section is updated as new scholarship opportunities are presented to South High students.)
- Sons of Italy Scholarship – Awards range from $500 - $5,000. Applicant must be wholly or partially of Italian descent. For more information and an application, visit www.sonsofitalyca.org. Application deadline is March 1, 2012.

The Daniel Carlos Herrera Memorial Scholarship – offering $500 for bilingual student pursuing a career in education or community service and has been involved in community service. Stop by counseling office for more information and application. Application must be turned in by January 20, 2012.

Shelly Spiegel-Coleman Scholarship – offering $500 for bilingual senior who is planning to enroll in courses leading towards a teaching or counseling credential addressing the needs of English learners through the promotion of Bilingual Education. For more information and an application stop by the counseling office. Deadline is January 20, 2012.

California State PTA – this $500 scholarship recognizes volunteer service in the school and community and does not have a grade point average restriction or requirement. Student must be a member of South High PTSA. For more information and an application visit www.capta.org. Palos Verdes Art Center Scholarships - Up to $3,000 - Program's goal is to discover and nurture artistic talent by providing scholarships to visual arts students. For more information and an application visit www.pvartcenter.org. Deadline is February 24, 2012.

Italian Catholic Federation- $400 Scholarships to Baptized Roman Catholic Graduating Seniors of Italian Descent who have minimum 3.2 GPA. Go to www.ICF.ORG for more info and application. Application deadline is March 15, 2012.
- Cabrillo Civic Clubs of California Scholarship – Student must be of Portuguese descent, have a 3.5 GPA, and have participated in at least three extra –curricular activities while in high school. - Japanese American Citizens League Scholarship - $500-$2000 opportunity for students of Japanese American ancestry residing in the South Bay area and a member of the JACL. For more information and an application, visit www.southbayjacl.org. Application deadline is April 7, 2012.

L.A. Air Force Spouses’ Club Scholarship – ($1,000) Student must be dependent child of military service member (active or retired) living in the LAAFB area. Scholarships are granted based on academic performance, and participation in extra curricular and community activities. Go to www.laafsc.com for more information and an application. Sandpipers Scholarship Program - Qualified recipients will be funded throughout the four ($$$$) continuous years of their undergraduate studies. Selection is based on South Bay students' community and school involvement, academic achievement, leadership, and financial need. For more information and application go to www.sandpipers.org. Torrance Craftsmen's Guild Scholarship- $500 & $1,000 - The Guild is made up of an eclectic mix of artisans. Goal is to promote and encourage the arts in all mediums. Each year scholarships are awarded to TUSD high school seniors who demonstrate a strong interest in creating handmade items. Stop by counseling office for an application. Applications due by April 6, 2012.

Vietnam Veteran Scholarship - $1,000 opportunity for a student who is a family member of the veteran or must have been significantly influenced by the veteran. Must submit 500 word essay. Stop by counseling office for more information and an application. Due date is April 9, 2012.

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution scholarship opportunity for student with minimum 3.0 GPA who is planning an American History or Political Science major. Stop by the counseling office for more information and application. Application due by March 15, 2012.
- Charlotte Mousel Scholarship - $1500 - The CA Federation of Republican Woman will be reviewing applications based on scholastic achievement, school activities, community involvement, political activities. Students majoring in Political Science or Government are encouraged to apply. Stop by counseling office for more information and an application. Due March 1, 2012.
- Agnew Brusavich Law Corporation- $400 to South Bay graduating senior. The recipient should (but not required to) enroll in a CA Community College with the intention of transferring to a University of California campus after 2 years. Stop by counseling office for more information and an application. Application due by April 11, 2012.
- Durfee Family Scholarship - $500 - Need based scholarship, applicant must submit an application with an essay describing challenges they have overcome in order to pursue a college education. Preference to candidates who have demonstrated active interest in volunteering. Application due by April 1, 2012. El Camino Scholarships - $1,000 /year ($2,000 total). There are 3 separate opportunities: 1.Chemistry major 2.Nursing major 3.Major does not matter. Minimum GPA is 3.0 for each scholarship. South High is guaranteed at least 3 scholarships; so stop by and see Mr. Polun in Counseling office right away, not many students will which means you have a great shot at winning!

Torrance Memorial Medical Center - $1,000 (10 scholarships available)- This scholarship program encourages South Bay students seeking healthcare careers specifically in nursing, pharmacy, and allied health professions. Beat the Odds - Torrance Youth Council is offering $1,000 scholarships to students who have succeeded despite hardships such as poverty, disability, homelessness, or personal tragedy. Stop by counseling office for more information. Application must be postmarked by March 12, 2012
- Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce Woman in Business 4-5 scholarships at $2,000 each will be awarded. Opportunity to female senior with 3.0 GPA or higher, financial need, community service, and 500 word essay.
